After several months in which China’s PMI seesawed between modest contraction and modest expansion, the movement was to the upside again in January
An official reading of China’s Purchasing Managers Index unexpectedly increased to 50.5 in January from 50.3 in December, according to data released Wednesday. Analysts had expected the data, based on a survey by the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, to drop to 49.5, according to Dow Jones Newswires. A reading above 50 shows an expansion in manufacturing activity, while one below indicates contraction. HSBC will separately release its own PMI reading for China later in the day.
