Toyota said its earning for the quarter which ended in December were $1.1 billion. That is a strong showing for a company which was hurt by a huge number of recalls in 2010, the March Japan earthquake, and supply interruptions from floods in Japan.
For Toyota to make more progress it will have to move its current 12% market share in the resurgent US market higher. It commanded an 18% share four years ago when it moved ahead of Ford in monthly sales. Toyota’s high mileage hybrids like the Prius are still popular, and the company will have to ride that popularity to a US comeback
