The real estate markets in Spain are still in an awful state–perhaps worse than in the US. Six Spanish banks said the would set aside €11.8 billion to reserve for real estate losses. The largest banks in the country will make most of the reserves.
Spain’s three biggest banks said they would set aside 7 billion euros ($9 billion) in extra funds to cover rottern property assets on their books, following new rules announced by the government last week in a fresh attempt to restore confidence in the country’s financial sector.
