HTC simply cannot keep up with its major competitor in Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android-powered phones — Samsung — and Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone. Samsung is now the world’s largest handset company. Its Galaxy S III smartphone has been a smashing success.

HTC lowered its guidance after missing analysts’ expectations and reporting a 27% drop in revenues and a 57% drop in operating profits.
