The 52-Week Low Club for Tuesday

September 23, 2014: The following stocks are among the 203 equities making new 52-week lows today:

Chico’s FAS Inc. (NYSE: CHS) dropped about 1.2% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $14.77. Share volume is about 50% below the daily average of around 2.1 million. The stock’s 52-week high is $19.84. The apparel retailer is being dragged down today following a poor showing by rival Ascena Retail Group Inc. (NASDAQ:  ASNA) when it reported earnings last night.

KBR Inc. (NYSE: KBR) dropped about 1% today to post a 52-week low of $19.91. The share price is down nearly 35% year-to-date and more than 45% from its 52-week high. The engineering and construction company. Lower U.S. defense spending continues to take a toll on revenues. Share volume today is about equal to the average daily volume of around 1.4 million shares. The stock’s 52-week high is $36.70.

Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: SWHC) dropped about 2.8% today to post a new 52-week low of $9.41. Volume is about equal to the daily average of around 1.6 million shares. Demand for firearms is falling both from consumers and from the U.S. military, and S&W’s stock has dropped by about 55% since reporting earnings peaking in June. The stock’s 52-week high is $17.28.

Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB) sank to a new 52-week low on Tuesday of $77.44. Based on Monday night’s closing price of $79.42 that’s a drop of about 2.5%. The stock’s 52-week high is $89.76. There was no specific news on the company today. Trading volume was about 25% higher than the daily average of around 2.5 million shares.
