The 4 Stocks That Propped Up the DJIA on Monday

June 1, 2015: Markets opened higher on Monday after word (later proved false) that Greece and the ECB had reached an agreement. Stocks dropped sharply when the report proved false, but recovered to trade modestly higher as the end of the day’s trading approached. A strong dollar and a report on OPEC production kept crude oil prices lower today as well. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.22% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.28%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 0.33%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Monday was Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) which traded up 0.91% at $47.29. The stock’s 52-week range is $77.29 to $93.89. Trading volume totaled more than 21 million shares, well below the daily average of around 37 million. The company today announced that it will begin to ship Windows 10 on July 29th.

E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (NYSE: DD) traded higher by 0.83% at $71.60 The stock’s 52-week range is $63.70 to $80.65. Trading volume approached 4 million, but stayed below the daily average of around 6 million. The company had no specific news today.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) traded up 0.65% at $74.75. The stock’s 52-week range is $72.61 to $90.97. About 4.6 million shares traded hands today, well below the daily average of nearly 7 million. The company had no specific news today.

Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) traded up 0.51 at $69.03. The stock’s 52-week range is $48.80 to $70.69. Trading volume approached 4 million shares,  well below the daily average of around 8.5 million. The company had no specific news today.

Of the Dow 30 stocks 17 are set to close higher today and 13 are on track to close lower.
