Monday’s Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

August 20, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.2% at 2,857.06. The DJIA closed up 0.4% at 25,758.66. Separately, the Nasdaq was flat at 7,821.01.

Monday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets, with all three major indexes starting out the week on a positive note. Crude oil took a small step forward in the session. The S&P 500 sectors were almost all positive. The most positive sectors were energy and materials up 0.8% each. The worst performing sector was utilities down 0.4%.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 0.8% at $66.41.

Gold was last seen trading up 1.1% at $1,197.10.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Qorvo, Inc. (NASDAQ: QRVO) which fell about 4% to $78.25. The stock’s 52-week range is $64.53 to $86.84. Volume was about 1.6 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.2 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ: AAL) which traded up about 6% at $40.01. The stock’s 52-week range is $35.64 to $59.08. Volume was over 9 million compared to the daily average volume of 6.3 million.
