Quick Read

  • SoFi delivered record Q2 revenue of $1.21 billion and its fifth straight EPS beat, but flat profit guidance sent shares down 10%.

  • Sympathy selling dragged HOOD and AFRM each down 4% without company-specific catalysts, amplifying broad fintech pressure across the sector.

Shares of SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI | SOFI Price Prediction) are down 10% to $15.15 Wednesday morning, wiping out most of the pre-earnings bid despite record top-line revenue. The reaction stands out because SoFi delivered its fifth straight EPS beat and raised full-year revenue guidance.

SoFi stock had already been under pressure heading in, sitting down 36% year to date through Tuesday’s close. Sentiment was fragile, and management’s decision to leave profit guidance flat was all the tinder the sellers needed.

The Q2 2026 release hit at 7:06 a.m. ET, with the call following at 8:00 a.m. ET. SoFi shares were sharply lower early Wednesday, and the selling has held through midday.

Record Revenue Meets Unchanged Profit Guidance

SoFi reported Q2 2026 revenue of roughly $1.21 billion, topping the $1.13 billion consensus, with adjusted EPS of $0.12, essentially in line. Loan originations hit a record $14.8 billion, up 69% year over year (YoY), and deposits climbed $5.3 billion to $45.5 billion.

Management raised SoFi’s full-year 2026 adjusted net revenue guidance to $4.75 billion to $4.85 billion, implying 32% to 35% growth. However, SoFi held full-year adjusted EBITDA at approximately $1.6 billion, adjusted net income near $825 million, and adjusted EPS at roughly $0.60. The clear implication is that the costs are absorbing the revenue upside.

Margin pressure showed up in the mix, as well. SoFi’s Financial Services contribution margin fell about 600 basis points to 46%, sales and marketing spend rose 48% to $392.4 million, and Technology Platform revenue slid 23% YoY to $84.5 million after a large client exit. TD Cowen said the beat was “tempered” by the maintained EPS guide.

SoFi Technologies CEO Anthony Noto framed the quarter differently, calling “2026 is shaping up to be a defining year, and our second quarter results mark a clear inflection point for SoFi.”

Fintech Peers Trade Soft in Sympathy

The selloff is bleeding into other fintech names. Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:HOOD) shares are down 4% to $89.46, and Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ:AFRM) shares are off 4% to $69.82. Neither has a fresh company-specific catalyst today, so this reads as sector sympathy trading against a soft broader market.

Robinhood stock is now down 20% year to date (YTD), while Affirm shares sit down 6% YTD. The NASDAQ 100 is down 1.34%, offering no cover for high-beta names.

The ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (CBOE:ARKF) is down 1.32% to $40.36, with the ETF holding SoFi as its 10th largest position at 2.51% of net assets. The ARK Fintech Innovation ETF is actively managed and concentrated, so investors sizing their exposure should treat the fund’s volatility profile with care.

What to Watch

Analyst reaction into Thursday will matter. The consensus price target on SoFi stock sits at $20.63, well above current levels, so any target trims tied to the unchanged EBITDA guide could extend the pressure.

Investors can watch for whether SoFi shares hold the $15 area into the close, and whether management’s call commentary on marketing spend, Technology Platform churn, and dilution reshapes the profit trajectory. The next scheduled catalyst is Q3 2026 earnings, but sell-side notes hitting overnight could set the tone for Thursday’s session.
