“This Will Sound Super Crazy”: Elon Musk Makes Wild Prediction About What SpaceX Could Be Worth
Elon Musk just expanded a claim he made to SpaceX investors this summer, and the new version is significantly larger. There is also a contradiction buried in his past statements that he has never resolved.

On his own X account this evening, Elon Musk restated a valuation claim for SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX | SPCX Price Prediction) that he first made over the summer. This version is bigger. The post went up at 5:55 PM ET on October 8, 2026. Here it is in full:
“This will sound super crazy, but I see a path to SpaceX being worth orders of magnitude more than the current Earth economy“, according to X
When we checked tonight, the post had 33,028 likes, 2,739 reposts and 3,705 replies.
Read the Hedge Before the Headline Number
Musk says he sees a path to that outcome. A path is a course someone believes exists, and the post stands as a claim about a possible course without a date or figure attached.
The sentence also leaves a lot out. Musk gives no timeline and names no mechanism. He gives no figure for what he thinks the current Earth economy is worth, and he doesn’t say what orders of magnitude means here, according to X. Anyone filling in those gaps is adding numbers Musk did not give.
Musk Floated a Version of This in July
Musk raised the same idea with SpaceX investors over the summer. On July 10, 2026, Barron’s reported that Musk said SpaceX would be “Worth More Than the Rest of Earth”. The same day, Futurism reported that Musk called it his goal for SpaceX to be worth more than “the Entire Earth”. TheStreet described the comment as Musk’s “startling claim” to SpaceX investors in a July 13, 2026 report.
Tonight’s post goes further than the July claim. In July the benchmark was more than the rest of Earth. Tonight it is orders of magnitude more than the current Earth economy, according to X.
The July coverage also mentioned how he would get there. On July 14, 2026, Thought Catalog reported that Musk linked the outcome to a plan to “Harvest the Sun”.
A Contradiction Musk Has Left Open
Yahoo Finance pointed out in a July 19, 2026 report that Musk had said SpaceX would be worth more than the rest of Earth if it reached its goals. He has also said “Money Will Stop Being Relevant”, according to Yahoo Finance.
A valuation is measured in money. If money stops being relevant, it is hard to see how a company could be worth a specific multiple of anything. Both statements are still on the record, and Musk has left the tension between them open.
SpaceX Shares Tell a Quieter Story
At 1:16 PM ET on October 8, 2026, SpaceX shares traded at $162.22, down 3.21% in Thursday’s regular session.
From the company’s listing on June 12, 2026 through October 8, the shares rose 0.79%. That figure covers the whole stretch of public trading.
Recent momentum points the other way: the stock is up 9.65% over the past month and 7.53% over the past week. Earlier this week, CNBC reported that SpaceX stock climbed to its highest level since June. On Thursday, Barron’s covered SpaceX’s push into wireless and the pressure it put on telecom stocks.
So the company’s founder describes a value many times the world’s output. But, the market has moved the shares very little since they began trading, though they have rose recently. The company’s own disclosures and filings are on SpaceX’s investor relations site, and the latest quarterly report is on file with the SEC.
Founder Time Versus Market Time
Musk is describing a long-term path with no stated timeline. The market is pricing the next few quarters. Investors should watch SpaceX’s next quarterly report, the Cursor deal’s close and Starship progress.
