Reddit Slides 5% Before Earnings as U.S. User Growth Worries Mount; Snap Sinks 4%, Pinterest Drops 2%, Meta Climbs 3%
Reddit slides into its Q3 earnings report carrying a 44% year-to-date loss and mounting questions about whether slowing U.S. user growth can be offset before Wall Street loses patience entirely.
Caution is building around Reddit (NYSE:RDDT | RDDT Price Prediction) as its Q3 2026 earnings report arrives, with worries about slowing U.S. user growth weighing on the stock. Reddit stock is at $128.56, down 5% in midday trading. That decline leaves Reddit stock down 44% year to date (YTD), deepening a rough stretch for one of social media’s fastest growers.
The Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEARCA:XLC), which holds Reddit alongside its biggest social media rivals, is at $101.13, down 2%. Losses are milder across large caps, with the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) at $768.14, down 0.5%. Both funds are holding up better than Reddit.
Reddit Heads Into Its Q3 Report Under Pressure
Reddit is scheduled to report Q3 results after the closing bell on October 29, and the selling reads as caution ahead of the release. On its July 30 call, Reddit reported U.S. daily active uniques of 53.2 million for Q2 2026, up 6%. International daily active uniques at Reddit grew 28% to 77.1 million, tilting growth toward markets that earn less per user. Per-user revenue shows the gap, since Reddit’s U.S. average revenue per user (ARPU) of $11.85 compares with $6.18 globally.
Guidance tells a similar story: Reddit’s Q3 forecast of $860 million to $870 million implies revenue growth of 47% to 49%, down from 61% in Q2. Earlier coverage examined how slower growth guidance loomed over Reddit’s earnings and whether Reddit Max can offset that slowdown.
Search traffic is the third pressure point. Speaking on the July 30 call, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said that “Search referrals were choppy in the quarter, and traffic was more volatile later in the quarter.” In court, Reddit sued Perplexity AI and three other companies on October 22, 2025, over content allegedly scraped from search-engine results.
Snap and Pinterest Slide While Meta Climbs
Snap (NYSE:SNAP) stock is at $5.70, down 4%, a decline that sits closer to Reddit’s than to the sector fund’s. Meanwhile, Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) stock is at $20.43, down 2%, a milder drop than Reddit’s. Both companies last reported in early August, Snap on August 3 and Pinterest on August 4, so neither has offered a fresh read on fall ad demand.
At the same time, Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) stock is at $627.96, up 3%, a move that cuts against the selling in smaller social names. Meta already reported Q3 2026 revenue of $64.6 billion on October 21, up 26.1% YoY. That quarter’s earnings per share (EPS) of $3.83 missed estimates because of a $9.89 billion legal settlement charge; without it, EPS would have been $7.40.
How Reddit’s Business Stands Apart From Snap, Pinterest and Meta
Reddit makes money from interest-based communities where people trade firsthand opinions, earning mostly from ads and partly from licensing its content to AI developers. Snap runs a camera-first messaging app and is building direct revenue through subscriptions such as Snapchat+, while developing its SPECS augmented reality glasses.
Pinterest is a visual discovery platform built around shopping intent, and most of its users arrive directly through its app. That direct habit gives Pinterest a cushion Reddit hasn’t fully built yet, as Reddit converts web visitors into logged-in app users. Meta works at another scale entirely, pairing Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp with one of the largest AI infrastructure buildouts anywhere.
What Reddit’s Q3 Report Has to Prove
The next test for Reddit is whether its Q4 2026 revenue guide lands near the $1.05 billion to $1.06 billion that Wall Street’s full-year consensus implies. Reddit also needs its U.S. daily users to top their Q2 level, a figure now reported on a total basis since the company is dropping its separate logged-in and logged-out counts.
At 16x forward earnings, Reddit trades at the lowest multiple of the past year. Bulls point to six straight quarterly earnings beats, including Reddit’s Q4 2025 results, and see that discount as room for upside. The bears counter that Reddit stock tumbled the day of its last report despite a beat, and that uncertain AI licensing renewals could weigh on the multiple. A cautious approach may be warranted until the question of Reddit’s U.S. user growth resolves.
