Ripple Confirms Asset Managers Are Prepared for XRP Ledger’s Upcoming Batch Upgrade: What It Changes for XRP

The XRP Ledger is days away from activating its most consequential upgrade in years, but asset managers quietly testing it behind the scenes know something the market has not yet priced in.

The XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) Ledger is approaching its most significant upgrade of 2026, just nine days away. The Batch amendment, which allows for up to eight transactions to be processed together in a single operation, has gained support from 30 out of 35 validators as of September 20. For the upgrade to activate on September 29 at 14:06 UTC, it needs at least 28 validators to continue their support.

Ripple is actively promoting this upgrade. Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX, stated on September 19 that asset managers and commercial projects are already working with the Batch feature ahead of its launch, with plans to reveal specific partners once it’s live. However, no specific companies or timelines were disclosed.

What Does the XRP Ledger Batch Upgrade Offer?

The Batch transaction groups together two to eight regular XRP Ledger transactions under one main transaction, which determines how they will be processed. It includes four options: an all-or-nothing approach, a one-at-a-time success, continuing until a failure occurs, or processing them separately.

The all-or-nothing mode is particularly appealing to asset managers, as it ensures that in a securities trade, the asset and payment occur simultaneously, preventing either party from inadvertently holding both sides of a transaction. In a typical trade, if one side fails after the other completes, it can lead to a loss. With Batch, if one component fails, the entire transaction cancels.

Another benefit is related to fees. Exchanges, wallets, or marketplaces can bundle their own transaction fees within a customer’s batch, ensuring the fee and the trade are completed together. This method provides transparency and efficiency, especially in transactions involving tokenized assets.

Why Batch Was Pulled in February and What Changed

This is not the first attempt to implement the Batch upgrade. Earlier in 2026, the initial version was set to activate but was pulled when auditors identified a flaw in the code that could potentially allow unauthorized transactions. RippleX responded swiftly, halting the amendment and ensuring that no user funds were ever at risk.

The revised version, released on September 14, has undergone extensive audits and testing to address the issues raised in the first attempt. Third-party auditors scrutinized it and subjected it to security challenges, with updated mechanisms to improve its security and reliability.

Thirty of 35 Validators Must Hold a 28-Vote Line Until September 29

For the Batch amendment to become official, it must receive backing from 80% of validators, which means at least 28 of 35 must agree for 14 consecutive days. With 30 votes in favor as of September 20, the amendment appears to be on track.

However, validators can change their votes at any moment. If support dips below the required margin before September 29, the voting clock resets, and a new 14-day period begins.

Assuming the current support holds, the Batch feature will activate on September 29 at 14:06 UTC, marking the first time this important upgrade has reached the final week of voting after the earlier withdrawal. This development could influence how transactions are processed on the XRP Ledger and may positively impact XRP’s market dynamics.

Will Batch Activate, and What Changes for XRP?

Batch will likely activate, but the overall impact may be less significant than it appears at first glance. Of 35 validators, 30 have supported the proposal for six days; however, two still have room to change their minds.

The second version of Batch has passed three outside reviews after the first version fell short under the same rules. Unless votes change unexpectedly, we should see an all-or-nothing settlement for up to eight transactions on September 29. This would bring Ripple’s delivery-versus-payment feature to life.

However, while Batch introduces a new feature, it doesn’t automatically drive demand for XRP. The feature doesn’t require XRP for transactions, so it creates no new demand unless a specific manager starts using it. The XRP price is now up 22.2% for the week to $1.58, in a rally that also lifted Bitcoin 13.9%.

If those managers’ trades make it onto the ledger, Batch could make XRP more attractive. If not, XRP could have a more efficient ledger but still lack new buyers.
