Zcash’s Recent Surge: Is $5,000 or $200 the Next Target?

Zcash just delivered an 89% gain in a single month, and now two forecasters are pointing in wildly opposite directions with price targets that could not be further apart. Understanding what each scenario actually requires reveals which outcome deserves serious…

Recently, Zcash (CRYPTO: ZEC) soared by 89% in just one month, prompting two starkly different predictions this week—one suggesting a climb to $5,000 by the end of 2026, while the other warns of a drop to $200. Currently, Zcash is trading at $1,584, up 203% so far in 2026.

The wide gap between these two price targets shows how unpredictable Zcash can be, especially after such a rapid increase with limited historical data at these new price levels.

After hitting a high of $1,677 on September 23, Zcash has cooled slightly, down 1.1% over the past week. By comparison, Bitcoin has risen 7% this month but is down 3.3% so far in 2026. This raises the question: which Zcash target makes more sense as we approach December? The answer lies in understanding what Zcash needs to achieve to hit either target.

Fund Access and Paradigm Drove the 89% Month

The surge in Zcash’s value is driven by increased demand from newly launched funds. Grayscale introduced its Zcash ETF on August 25, 2026, followed by an exchange-traded product in Europe. These new investment vehicles allow wealth managers, pension funds, and brokerage clients who typically cannot hold cryptocurrencies to invest in Zcash through the same accounts they use for stocks. This influx of new buyers has lifted Zcash significantly.

Additionally, venture firm Paradigm made headlines by revealing a position in Zcash on September 16. Co-founder Matt Huang highlighted Zcash as a private complement to Bitcoin. On the day of the announcement, Zcash opened at $1,110 and closed at $1,337, marking its largest single-day gain during this rally.

Money has also been shifting toward privacy coins more broadly. Zcash offers the unique ability to conduct shielded transactions, which validate transfers without disclosing sensitive information about the parties involved.

Given Zcash’s recent rapid increase, current holders have few historical data points to reference for support (where buyers traditionally step in) and resistance (where sellers typically offload). This lack of established price levels leads forecasters to make widely varying predictions. The $5,000 target suggests a continuation of September’s upward trend, while the $200 target assumes a complete reversal of the recent rally.

Recent trading shows Zcash fluctuating between $1,478 and $1,677 on September 23, before closing at $1,498. Since then, the market has stagnated, with early investors likely cashing in profits while new buyers enter at similar price points.

In the past, Zcash has been volatile; for example, it closed at $74 in September 2025, reached $405 in October, and hit $510 in December, only to fall 57% and close February 2026 at $221. Given this history of steep pullbacks, early holders may be wary and choose to take profits sooner rather than risk a similar drop.

$5,000 Needs a Break Above the 2016 Ceiling, and $200 Needs Worse Than Last Winter

To reach the ambitious $5,000 target, Zcash would need to rise 216% from its current price and approach its all-time high of $5,942, set on October 29, 2016, when the coin had very few holders. The highest price Zcash reached in any month since then was $2,027 in November 2016, about 28% above the current price.

Therefore, hitting $5,000 requires breaking through a significant resistance level established nearly a decade ago, followed by an even larger upward surge.

On the other hand, the $200 target sits 87% below the current price and has no set deadline. For Zcash to fall to $200, it would need a decline half again as deep as last winter’s 57% drop, which, from $1,584, would leave the coin near $680. New investors, drawn in by the recent ETF and Paradigm announcements, would also likely sell if it moves toward $200.

Is $5,000 or $200 the Next Stop for Zcash?

Our analysis suggests Zcash may settle somewhere between these two forecasts, with the downside prediction appearing more plausible. Given Zcash’s tendency to quickly reverse gains, the market’s current flat performance suggests a pullback toward mid-September lows is more likely than either a plunge to $200 or a jump to $5,000 by year-end.

Three key levels set the stage. A daily close above $1,677—approximately 6% higher—by October 31 would bolster the case for further growth, especially if ETF demand continues to rise alongside positive momentum from Bitcoin. However, if investment interest cools, Zcash could drop to its September 14 low of $1,029, a decline of about 35%. A drop below that floor may signify a fading rally, putting the September 1 close of $830 on the radar.
