Will Ethereum Hit $4,000 Before the End of 2026?
Ethereum just posted a stunning 72% quarterly surge, but the clock is ticking and a wall of frustrated sellers waits ahead. Whether ETH can hit the $4,000 milestone before 2027 depends on one critical monthly close.

Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) needs to rise by approximately 48% to hit $4,000, with just about three months left in 2026 to achieve this milestone. Investors are closely monitoring the $4,000 mark, which is seen as a dividing line between a temporary relief rally and a more robust recovery.
Since the end of June, ETH has made significant gains, climbing about 72% from around $1,569 to nearly $2,708 as of September 27, 2026. This raises the question: can Ethereum reach $4,000 by the end of the year, or has it exhausted its upward momentum?
Ethereum Needs About 14% a Month to Reach $4,000 by December

To reach the $4,000 target in the remaining 95 days of 2026, Ethereum requires an average monthly increase of around 14%. Over the past month, ETH managed to increase by about 10%, indicating that it will need to pick up the pace to meet its target.
The $4,000 goal also represents a significant increase in dollar value. Ethereum’s current market cap stands at about $331 billion, accounting for roughly 11% of the total $2.91 trillion cryptocurrency market. If it reaches $4,000, its market value could rise to approximately $488 billion.
To achieve this, the money can come from two potential sources. If the overall cryptocurrency market experiences a 48% growth, reaching around $4.3 trillion, Ethereum could hit the $4,000 mark while maintaining its 11% market share. On the other hand, if the market remains stable, funds would need to flow from Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies into Ethereum, increasing its share to about 17%. Historically, both scenarios have contributed to significant price increases.
Ethereum’s 72% Quarter Shows It Can Move Fast Enough

Recent performance suggests that Ethereum has the ability to achieve rapid growth. Over the past three months, ETH surged approximately 72%—outperforming Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), which saw a 42% increase during the same period. Notably, Ethereum rose about 42% in just the last 60 days, demonstrating strong investor interest in this particular asset rather than just a general market uptick.
ETH’s recent breakout above $2,672 in September was a critical milestone, as it signaled a potential path to $2,950 to $3,000. If this momentum from the past quarter continues, ETH could surpass $4,000 before the deadline. In fact, a 72% increase from its current price of $2,708 would bring it to about $4,660, still below the all-time high of nearly $4,950 back in August 2025.
Ethereum’s Rally Has Slowed, and Sellers Wait Near $4,000

Though Ethereum saw impressive gains recently, much of this growth happened early in the quarter. It gained around 22% in the first month and 29% in the second month, but only managed a 10% increase in the past month. This slowdown highlights the need for a rejuvenated rally to maintain its upward trajectory.
Additionally, Ethereum must recover from previous losses. As of now, ETH is down about 9% for the year and 33% compared to its price a year ago, when it traded near $4,044. Many investors who purchased ETH during that time are still at a loss, and some may consider selling as the price approaches that level, which could create selling pressure near $4,000.
Even if Ethereum continues to rise, it may not necessarily reach $4,000 by the end of 2026. A gradual rise into early 2027 could still see ETH hitting the target without meeting the December deadline.
Will Ethereum Reach $4,000 Before the End of 2026?
Currently, the chances of Ethereum reaching $4,000 before the close of 2026 appear low. Although recent months show that ETH can experience a 48% jump in three months, its monthly growth has slowed down to 10%, well below the required 14%. Additionally, the selling pressure from investors who acquired ETH a year ago could hinder its progress near the $4,000 mark.
ETH needs to reclaim the $3,000 level, which is about 11% above its current price and close to where it started the year. A monthly close above $3,000 by the end of November would keep the $4,000 target within reach for December. However, if ETH falls back below $2,672 (just under its current price), the rally could stall, pushing the $4,000 goal into 2027.
