Visits to NRA Site Rise 72%

Gun sales have spiked in the wake of the San Bernardino terrorist massacre. Another measure of interest in guns and gun sales has risen sharply as well. Visits to the National Rifle Association (NRA) website were up 72% in October, compared to September, and higher by 59% compared to October 2014.

According to online audience firm Compete, the home page of the NRA rose 163,224. This is the highest level in two years. One of the largest sources of traffic was Google, which is not surprising because the search site is the major traffic contributor to many sites. Another large referrer was the NRA welcome page.

Among the most visible sections of NRA.org are several that carry the message “Freedom’s Safest Place.” The most prominent section of the site is a video message from Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president and chief executive officer:

No amount of bloodshed will ever satisfy the demons among us. These cowards dream of inflicting more damage, more suffering, more terror. No target is too intimate or too sacred for these monsters. They will come to where we worship, where we educate and where we live.

But when evil knocks on our doors, Americans have a power no other people on the planet share: The full-throated right to defend our families and ourselves with our Second Amendment. Let fate decide if mercy is offered to the demons at our door.

I’m the National Rifle Association of America. And I’m Freedom’s Safest Place.

Another is a section on stats of record November gun sales:

November set another record number for background checks, Ruger and Smith & Wesson stock isn’t riding the market’s roller coaster and many of the firearms flying off the shelves are going home with a person with a carry permit, which often doesn’t require a NICS check.

The final tally is in for background checks conducted for the month of November through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). It’s yet another monthly high-water mark, which makes seven months in a row.

The NRA also attributes the improvement to Black Friday sales.

As fears about terrorism rise, the NRA website is likely to gain more visits.
