The laboratory pays an average annual salary of over $63,000, though the highest earning workers can earn over $111,000. In part because of these high salaries, Oak Ridge National Laboratory ranks as the best place to work in Tennessee.

Exxon Mobil, the Irving, Texas-based energy giant, ranks as the best company to work for in the Lone Star State. According to Zippia data, the average Exxon employee earns over $43,000 a year, more than the average pay at several competing companies, including Valero and Chevron. Exxon Mobil also receives high marks for the diversity of its workforce.

Physician staffing company CHG Healthcare ranks as Utah’s best company to work for and one of the best health care companies to work for in the nation. Zippia gave the company a perfect 10/10 score for salaries, as the average worker earns nearly $81,000 a year, much more than at many competitors. Of over 400 reviews on job review site Glassdoor, 89% of CHG Healthcare employees said they would recommend working for the company to a friend, and 95% approve of how CEO Scott Beck is running the company. Many said they appreciate that the company puts people first, as a core value.

Orvis is a retail business that provides customers with fishing, hunting, and sporting goods equipment. At over 160 years old, Orvis is the oldest company to rank as the best place to work in its state. This kind of long-term stability earned Orvis a high financial performance score on Zippia of 9.7/10, which helped make it the best place to work in Vermont.
