Short Sellers Shy Away From 3D Printing Stocks

Short interest during the two-week period ending December 15 fell on all four 3D printing stocks we follow. Trading was more active than in the prior two-week period, with days to cover decreasing or remaining unchanged on shares in all four companies.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) fell by 1.3% to 23.58 million shares. Some 22.2% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover fell from 14 to 10. In the two-week short interest period to December 15, the share price rose by nearly 9%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $6.00 to $19.76, and shares closed at $14.17 on Tuesday, down about 0.4% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 9.8% in the first two weeks of December to about 5.29 million shares, or 10.8% of the company’s float. Days to cover remained unchanged at six. The share price rose about 4.7% in the two-week period, and the stock closed at $17.77 on Tuesday, down about 0.7% on the day. The 52-week range is $14.48 to $30.46.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) fell by 3.1% to 2.08 million shares. About 19.3% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price added about 0.8% in the two-week period. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.60 to $16.15, and shares closed at $9.98 on Tuesday, down 0.1% for the day. Days to cover slipped from 20 to 15.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 7.8% to 522,724 American depositary shares, with days to cover falling from 12 to seven. The share price fell by 11.4% in the short interest period. The stock closed at $2.96 on Tuesday, down about 1.6% for the day, in a 52-week range of $2.92 to $6.50. The low was posted Tuesday.
