Domino's posted Q3 2026 diluted earnings per share of $4.60, beating expectations, on revenue that also topped forecasts. The source of that outperformance matters to anyone judging the underlying health of the franchise.

The beat came from the supply chain segment, where higher order volumes and a 2.2% increase in food basket pricing expanded gross margins on procurement productivity gains. Operating income, net income and the per-share result all benefited, helped by buybacks that shrank the share count.

U.S. same-store sales growth slowed to just 0.3% in Q3 2026 from 5.2% a year ago, and international growth excluding foreign exchange slowed to 0.2% from 1.7%. The company kept opening stores, but traffic growth at existing restaurants is barely registering.

Incoming CEO Joe Jordan, who called the franchise system's brand and global scale competitive advantages, now owns the challenge of reigniting customer frequency. His stated priorities are getting closer to customers, improving franchisee profitability, and executing ideas with greater speed and consistency. Investors will be watching whether those ambitions translate into a same-store sales recovery over the next several quarters or whether Q3's near-flat traffic proves to be the new baseline.

The balance sheet carries meaningful risk alongside those operational questions. Domino's carries $4.77 billion in fixed-rate notes, negative stockholders' equity, and the current portion of long-term debt rose to $1.33 billion, signaling near-term refinancing needs. Free cash flow also declined 7.2% year to date, attributed to working capital timing, which adds another variable for Jordan to manage as he pushes for growth.
