Enbridge (ENB) Acquires Tallgrass Crude to Build a Third Rockies Pipeline Corridor
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 6, 2026.
The acquisition of Tallgrass Energy's crude oil business will expand our presence in the Bakken, Powder River and Denver-Julesburg basins by adding a highly contracted pipeline with connectivity from Guernsey, WY to Cushing, OK. This acquisition is expected to provide us with a new corridor through the U.S. Rockies, complementing our existing assets, including Express-Platte and Seaway.
Enbridge is buying its way into a third crude artery out of the Rockies, stacking Tallgrass barrels from Wyoming to Cushing on top of Express-Platte and Seaway. For a $107 billion dividend payer, contracted takeaway from the Bakken and DJ is the kind of fee-based cash flow that funds the payout.

Enbridge is adding Tallgrass Energy's crude oil business to its U.S. midstream footprint, picking up a highly contracted pipeline that runs from Guernsey, Wyoming all the way down to Cushing, Oklahoma. The deal gives the company a new corridor through the Rockies that sits alongside, rather than overlaps with, its existing Express-Platte and Seaway systems.
The basins feeding this new line are among the most active in the country. Enbridge CEO Greg Ebel specifically called out expanded presence in the Bakken, Powder River, and Denver-Julesburg basins, three formations that have been generating steady producer demand for contracted takeaway capacity.

That contracted nature is the key phrase for income-focused investors. Fee-based, volume-committed pipeline revenue is structurally insulated from commodity price swings, which is exactly the kind of cash flow profile that supports a dividend at Enbridge's scale. Ebel framed the acquisition as complementary to existing assets rather than a replacement for them, meaning the company is layering in incremental fee streams rather than consolidating overlapping ones.
With three distinct crude corridors out of the Rockies now in hand, Enbridge is deepening its position as a toll-road operator across one of North America's most prolific producing regions. The question for investors going forward is how quickly the Tallgrass volumes ramp and whether the contracted rates hold as producers in the Bakken and DJ basins continue to manage their own capital programs.
