The FTSE 100 finished the session at 14,149, a positive day but a modest one compared to what was happening across the Channel.
Germany's DAX closed up 0.75%, more than three times the FTSE 100's gain, putting the performance gap on full display for any investor whose European allocation is tilted toward London. The CAC 40 also closed in positive territory, keeping Paris ahead of the FTSE on the day.
The FTSE peaked near a 0.34% gain in the middle of the session before steadily fading, spending a good stretch of the afternoon in negative territory before recovering to close just above flat-to-positive.
For investors benchmarked to the FTSE 100, the recurring theme is the same: London participates in European rallies while capturing the thinner end of the move. The DAX's consistent outperformance on up days raises a pointed question about whether UK-heavy allocations are leaving returns on the table.
