Global Indemnity (GBLI) Q3 2026: Pricing Discipline Costs Volume
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 4, 2026.
Holding the line on price while rivals cut property rates cost Global Indemnity volume: wholesale commercial premiums fell 8.6%, missing both EPS and revenue expectations. New CEO Jessica Buss is betting on a five-year expansion of the Katalyx distribution platform to fix it, with little cushion in the meantime.

Global Indemnity reported adjusted earnings of $0.65 per diluted share for the third quarter of 2026, missing expectations against the $0.73 consensus estimate. Revenue came in at $112.9 million, missing expectations and slipping 1.1% from the same period a year earlier. GAAP diluted EPS was a slightly lower $0.61, with the difference reflecting after-tax net realized investment losses.
The sharpest pressure came from the Penn-America wholesale commercial segment, where premiums fell 8.6% as Global Indemnity held its pricing standards while competitors cut property rates. Specialty Products premiums dropped 9.5% as well, partially offset by a 13.8% gain in Collectibles and a 25% year-to-date rise in Assumed E&S Reinsurance. The combined ratio deteriorated to 94.9% from 90.6% a year earlier, with the loss ratio rising to 53.0% from 50.1%.
Investment income added to the pressure, falling to $14.5 million from $17.9 million as limited partnership returns weakened and Treasury yields declined. Net unrealized investment losses of $12.6 million dragged the total annualized investment return down to just 0.3% for the quarter. In September 2026 the company began lengthening portfolio duration into higher-yielding securities, pushing its book yield to 4.8% and duration to 1.5 years, a move intended to stabilize income going forward.

The quarter also marked a leadership transition: incoming CEO Jessica Buss used her first earnings report to both acknowledge the miss plainly and lay out an ambitious agenda. She stated: "I am confident that, under my leadership, Katalyx will expand its distribution substantially over the next five years; in my first 48 hours, I set that expansion in motion for 2027. We will put Kaleidoscope to work for our wholesalers, agents and underwriters, and Belmont will materially improve its operating efficiency." She also pointed to the company's 23-year track record of top-quartile loss ratios, no debt, and strong capital reserves as a foundation for the pivot.
Net income for the quarter was $8.9 million, down 29.15% year over year, though shareholders' equity held essentially flat at $704.9 million, up just 0.11% from a year earlier. Cash and equivalents surged 129.7% year over year to $173.1 million, giving the company financial flexibility even as operating performance softened. The quarterly cash distribution declared was $0.35 per common share, or $1.05 for the first nine months of 2026.
