The Hang Seng ended the session at 3,058.12, a gain of just over 3 points, a finish that signals steady demand from buyers willing to hold positions without pushing prices meaningfully higher into the afternoon handoff.
The index dipped briefly into negative territory early before turning positive and spending most of the day above the flat line, at points touching gains close to 0.6%. The late-session drift back toward the open left the closing figure well below the day's highs.
Shanghai's SSE Composite essentially went nowhere, finishing the day with a change of less than a tenth of a basis point. With both of the region's major benchmarks providing little in the way of momentum, Greater China markets offered no clear directional signal for traders in Europe and, later, the Americas to work from.
For investors tracking Hong Kong equities, demand held up, but the inability to sustain the day's stronger gains means the index remains in a holding pattern until a clearer catalyst emerges.
