London held flat at the October 5 open while the CAC 40 in Paris fell more than 1.1%, a single-session divergence wide enough to shift how fund managers think about European equity exposure.
The DAX in Frankfurt was also in the red, slipping 0.66% at the open, which puts London in an unusual position of relative strength across the continent. When two of Europe's largest indexes are falling and a third is holding, the one holding tends to attract defensive rotation flows.
Today's flat open follows weeks of decline in the FTSE 100, so holding ground here carries a different signal than holding ground at a peak.
The index has barely budged from its previous close, and European allocation decisions this week are likely to hinge on whether London continues to weather whatever is weighing on Paris and Frankfurt, or eventually follows them lower.
