The muted open in London is tied directly to the Bank of England, which is expected to hold its benchmark rate at 3.75%. Rate-sensitive sectors tend to tread water ahead of such decisions, and UK investors are keeping risk appetite in check until there is more clarity.

The FTSE 100 has spent the past several sessions pulling back from higher levels, making today's tentative open a continuation of that softer trend. The question is whether any momentum from the continent crosses the Channel.
