London led Europe higher with a 1.2% close, finishing a step ahead of Frankfurt and Paris. US investors with European exposure just got the day's best returns outside their own market.

The FTSE 100 closed at 13,973, a gain of 1.16% that put London ahead of both the DAX and the CAC 40.
The index recovered from an early dip into negative territory and held its gains through the close.
London led Frankfurt and Paris on the day, a roughly one-third of a percentage point gap over the CAC 40.
The move clears the previous close of 13,813, and whether it holds depends on buying carrying into the next session.
