Microsoft closed at $541.15, above its prior high and into price discovery, where no trapped sellers remain to weigh on the price.
With every shareholder now sitting on a gain, there is no overhead supply of frustrated holders waiting to sell, which can let momentum carry the stock further than fundamental models suggest.
The path to this record was not straight, and the stock spent an extended stretch below the old high before accelerating back through it.
The breakout now has to hold on a closing basis in the sessions ahead. One that holds resets the range higher and draws in additional buyers.
