Applied Optoelectronics dropped 14% on October 8, the steepest single-session decline among the five losers, and Coherent, Astera Labs and CoreWeave followed it down, putting four of the five worst performers in the optical and data center corner of the market.

That kind of sector-wide pressure is worth taking seriously because it points to a rotation or sentiment shift across the theme. When names serving the same infrastructure build-out all fall sharply in one session, the move reflects a broader reassessment of near-term demand or valuation.

Accenture led the upside with a 6.2% gain, ahead of Asana at 5.3% and Marathon Petroleum at 4.9%. The spread between the best gainer and the worst loser ran roughly 20 percentage points, an unusually wide range for a single session.

For investors already holding optical or data center infrastructure stocks, the clustering of losses across multiple names on the same day is the key signal to track heading into the next session. For those on the sidelines, the gap between the beaten-down losers and the relatively calm gainers defines where the market's risk appetite currently sits.
