Debanjan Saha, who spent years at Google Cloud leading DataPlex and engineering for the Vertex AI platform, joined the board of Vertex, Inc. on October 8, 2026. The appointment lands at a $1.0 billion indirect tax software company that is actively reshaping itself around artificial intelligence.
Indirect tax compliance, which covers sales tax, VAT, and similar obligations across thousands of jurisdictions, has historically been a rules-heavy, workflow-intensive business. Vertex, Inc. is signaling that it sees AI as the tool to rebuild those workflows from the ground up, and recruiting a director with Saha's specific background makes that direction concrete.
DataPlex is Google Cloud's data governance and cataloging service, and Vertex AI is one of the most widely used enterprise machine-learning platforms in the market. Someone who ran engineering at that level understands both the infrastructure required to move large volumes of structured tax data and the model tooling needed to act on it.
For investors, the board composition is often an early indicator of where a company's product roadmap is heading before any formal announcement arrives. Adding a director with deep AI platform credentials at this stage of Vertex, Inc.'s evolution is a deliberate signal about the roadmap ahead.
