Smithfield Foods posted adjusted diluted EPS of $0.26 for its fiscal third quarter of 2026, meeting expectations and extending its streak of topping EPS expectations to four consecutive quarters, though well below the $0.58 reported a year ago.

Sales of $3.44 billion came in missing expectations, with the damage concentrated upstream as the Fresh Pork segment swung to an $89 million operating loss and Hog Production profit fell, both driven by sharply lower pork and hog commodity prices.

Packaged Meats grew operating profit to $230 million and expanded margin, keeping overall results from deteriorating further. CEO Shane Smith noted that the segment remains on track to deliver its fifth consecutive year above $1 billion in operating profit for fiscal 2026, a cushion against cyclical commodity swings.

Management guided full-year adjusted operating profit to $900 million to $1 billion while warning that commodity market pressure in the upstream businesses is expected to continue through the fourth quarter. Fresh Pork and Hog Production are both guided to full-year results near breakeven.

Smithfield completed its acquisition of the Nathan's Famous brand on October 26, 2026, and management incorporated roughly two months of contribution from that deal into the full-year outlook. The quarter ended with $1.18 billion in cash, which management says supports the quarterly dividend and continued reinvestment in the business.
