Storage was the clear casualty of Friday's session, with Western Digital down 10.07% and Seagate Technology close behind, the two steepest decliners on the board.

Accenture added to the pressure on the losers' side, sliding 6.13%, while AppLovin and SoundHound AI also finished in the red without approaching the magnitude of the storage names' drawdown.

Teradyne led the entire board with a 7.98% advance, with Applied Optoelectronics, SpaceX, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and ON Semiconductor rounding out the top five gainers.

With both storage names surrendering roughly 10% in a single session, investors will be watching whether the selling in hard-drive and flash-storage stocks broadens into the wider semiconductor and hardware space in the sessions ahead.
