A post by cooperfrost on r/wallstreetbets argues that Grand Theft Auto release cycles have reliably predicted S&P 500 bull markets across 29 years of data, drawing 1,152 upvotes in a single day. The thesis rests on seven data points spanning every major GTA title from 1997 through the current GTA V-to-VI cycle.

Five of the seven release windows produced positive S&P 500 returns, and the post claims every cycle since Vice City in 2002 has ended in gains. The standout figure is the GTA V window, which produced a +347% return in the S&P 500 between 2013 and the present GTA VI cycle.

The post goes further by filtering for protagonist names, noting that the two negative-return cycles, GTA 2 and GTA III, both featured a protagonist named Claude. Since GTA VI stars Jason and Lucia, the author concludes the pattern remains intact, and even takes a dig at Anthropic's AI product sharing that name as a potential market disruptor.

Twelve Tabs, One Thesis

Your Research Resets Every Morning

The quote page in one tab. Filings in another. A chart you rebuilt from scratch, a transcript you never went back and found, a screener whose settings you will redo next week. Nothing you built yesterday is still there.

AlphaSpace replaces all of it with one screen you arrange yourself. Earnings calendar, estimate versus actual, the call transcript, live news, your own charts, every panel wired to whatever ticker you click. Close the browser and it is all still sitting there tomorrow.

The top comment, from bubblegum-rose, called it 'literal astrology at its finest,' which is probably the more useful framing. Seven data points spanning wildly different macro regimes, from the dot-com bust to zero interest rates to an AI boom, do not constitute a repeatable signal.

Take-Two Interactive has practical relevance here that the S&P theory lacks. GTA VI is one of the most anticipated game releases in years, and the stock is a legitimate vehicle for investors who want direct exposure to that launch. The meme's traction is itself a data point about retail sentiment.
