UK-heavy exposure just outperformed the continent by a wide margin on day one of September, with the DAX shedding 2.28% against a 0.22% dip for the FTSE 100.

The FTSE 100 ended the first session of September at 10,800.44, down 23.82 points, after paring intraday losses that approached 1.2%.

London held up while the continent sold off: the DAX fell 2.28% and the CAC 40 shed 1.25% on the same day.

A day when UK-listed heavyweights hold up relative to Frankfurt and Paris is a meaningful divergence, and it suggests the FTSE 100's composition, with its tilt toward commodities, financials, and internationally earning companies, offered a degree of insulation that continental indices did not.

The index cut its worst losses of the day by roughly half before the bell, leaving momentum in better shape than the mid-session lows suggested.
