United Rentals touched $1,174.61 on October 28, clearing the prior 52-week high set in August, a threshold that had acted as a ceiling for the stock since that peak.
Shares spent much of the year in a prolonged trough before a sustained climb carried them back through the $1,000 level and on to this new high.

Breaking above a prior annual peak is a technically meaningful event for many investors because the supply of shares held by investors waiting to sell at breakeven is, in theory, exhausted above that level. That dynamic can reduce overhead resistance and make further gains easier to sustain.
The level to watch now is whether the stock can hold above the former August high on any pullback. A close back below that level would suggest the breakout is failing; continued acceptance above it would confirm the new range.
