President Trump announced on October 11 that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy ceasefire, effective immediately, halting strikes on each other's energy infrastructure.

Europe is heading into heating season with storage at a seasonal low, and the threat of continued attacks on energy infrastructure had been the single biggest winter risk premium embedded in European gas prices.

With that risk now removed, at least in the near term, the pressure that had been building in gas markets heading into winter has a credible reason to ease, and traders pricing in a conflict-driven supply disruption will need to reassess quickly.

The durability of any agreement between these two parties remains the central question investors should watch as temperatures drop across the continent.
