Standard Chartered, one of the world's global systemically important banks, has begun offering institutional custody for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger. Custody from a bank at this tier is the specific piece of infrastructure that large funds and asset managers have repeatedly cited as a prerequisite before allocating to digital assets.

For the XRP Ledger, the development means the network now has the institutional plumbing that previously kept major capital on the sidelines. A stablecoin sitting inside a regulated, globally recognized custodian carries a fundamentally different risk profile than one held through a crypto-native solution.

RLUSD's utility as a settlement and liquidity layer on the XRP Ledger becomes considerably more credible when a bank of Standard Chartered's standing is willing to safekeep it. Institutional allocators who passed on prior entry points now face a meaningfully different set of conditions.
