Brussels has moved beyond its initial focus on steel and is now formally assessing additional sectors for trade quotas against Chinese imports, a significant widening of the bloc's commercial pressure campaign on Beijing.

Any European industrial company with China-linked input costs or meaningful Chinese sales exposure is now in scope of the review.

Beijing has already signaled retaliation if the EU follows through, putting a two-way squeeze on European firms: tighter import controls on one side and Chinese countermeasures on the other.

The assessment phase precedes formal action, so investors holding European industrials with China exposure should keep an eye on them now.
