Nasdaq Up 2% While 25 of 30 Philly SOX Stocks Fall
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 4, 2026.
A 2% Nasdaq gain carried by a handful of megacaps while chips sell off means index-level strength is masking what most semiconductor holdings are actually doing today.
The Nasdaq is up 2%, and 25 of the 30 stocks in the Philly SOX are down.

A broad index posting a 2% gain while most of its most closely watched sub-sector declines signals a narrow rally. A handful of large-cap names are doing the heavy lifting, and the majority of semiconductor stocks are going the other direction on the same day.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index tracks 30 stocks, and 25 of them were in the red at the time Bespoke flagged this on November 4. That internal divergence matters because the Nasdaq's weighting toward its biggest constituents obscures what a typical holding is actually doing.

For investors with meaningful exposure to chips, the Nasdaq headline number is close to irrelevant. The sector-level picture is the one that reflects their portfolio, and that picture looks considerably weaker than the index suggests.
