Mercedes-Benz Introduces New AMG GT S Roadster

Daimler AG

For those of you keeping score at home, Daimler and Mercedes-Benz have just announced the availability later this year of the Mercedes AMG GT S roadster. The S version is tucked between the GT and the GT C, both in performance and price.

The naming convention follows that of the AMG GT coupe: GT, GT S, GT C and GT R. The performance specifications for the GT S Roadster include the same 4.0-liter biturbo V8 as the GT and the GT C roadsters with a horsepower rating of 515, right between the 469 hp of the base model GT and the 550 hp of the GT S.

The GT S jumps from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 3.7 seconds, more quickly than the GT (3.9 seconds) but a touch slower than the GT S (3.6 seconds). Top speed for the GT is 188 miles per hour while the GT S is rated at 192 mph and the GT C at 196 mph.

The AMG GT S Roadster is the tenth Mercedes-Benz vehicle to carry the AMT GT moniker. In addition to the three Roadsters and the four coupes, there are three four-door variations — GT 53, GT 63, and GT 63 S — also due out later this year.

The company did not announce a price, but CNET expects the price to slide in between the $125,000 GT and the $157,000 GT S. Does $140,000 to $145,000 sound about right?
