Did DLTR Beat Earnings? Q1 2025 Results
Dollar Tree delivered a clean beat across the board in its first quarter of fiscal 2025, with adjusted EPS of $1.26 topping the $1.21 consensus estimate by 4.51% and revenue of $4.64 billion exceeding expectations by 2.39% on 11.3% year-over-year growth. The headline driver was the Dollar Tree segment's 5.4% same-store net sales gain, fueled by a 2.5% rise in traffic and a 2.8% increase in average ticket, reflecting growing consumer embrace of the company's multi-price 3.0 store format, which saw roughly 500 additional conversions during the quarter. Gross margin edged 20 basis points higher to 35.6%, aided by lower freight costs and occupancy leverage, while the company opened 148 new stores to bring its total count to 9,016. The pending sale of Family Dollar to Brigade and Macellum for $1.01 billion looms over the near-term outlook, with shared services costs expected to pressure Q2 adjusted EPS by 45% to 50% year-over-year before a second-half recovery. Management held its full-year net sales guidance of $18.50 billion to $19.10 billion and updated adjusted EPS guidance to $5.15 to $5.65, assuming current tariffs hold through fiscal year-end.
- Same-store net sales growth of 5.4% driven by 2.5% traffic increase and 2.8% ticket increase
- Gross margin expansion of 20 basis points to 35.6% from lower freight, improved mark-on, and occupancy leverage
- Conversion of approximately 500 stores to 3.0 multi-price format
- 148 new Dollar Tree store openings in Q1
- Non-operating insurance gain of $61.8 million from tornado-related insurance proceeds

Forward Guidance & Outlook
Dollar Tree reiterated full-year fiscal 2025 net sales guidance of $18.5 billion to $19.1 billion from continuing operations, based on comparable store net sales growth of 3% to 5%. The company updated its adjusted diluted EPS from continuing operations outlook to $5.15 to $5.65 to reflect year-to-date share repurchases. The outlook assumes tariffs in place as of June 4, 2025 remain for the balance of the fiscal year, with the company expecting to mitigate most incremental margin pressure. Shared services costs supporting Family Dollar will negatively impact full-year earnings by approximately $0.30 to $0.35, concentrated in Q1 and Q2. For Q2, comparable net sales growth is expected towards the higher end of the 3-5% full-year range, while adjusted EPS could be down 45-50% year-over-year before re-accelerating in Q3 and Q4.
