The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited is a full-service bank and wealth manager listed on the NYSE (NTB) and the Bermuda Stock Exchange (NTB.BH).

Its principal banking operations are in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey. There it provides deposit, cash management and lending solutions to individual, business and institutional clients, including retail and commercial banking, credit cards, mortgages, treasury and FX services. It also offers residential property lending for high-value homes in the UK.

Wealth management covers trust, private banking, asset management and custody in Bermuda, Cayman and Guernsey, plus trust services in The Bahamas, Singapore and Switzerland. Operations in Canada and Mauritius serve as business support centers.

The bank reports four segments: Bermuda, Cayman, Channel Islands and the UK, and Other. Revenue comes from two sources:
- net interest income on a conservative, highly liquid balance sheet, where loans are about 31% of assets and the investment portfolio is 100% AA-or-better;
- a fee base of roughly 40% of revenue, drawn from trust, banking, FX, asset management and custody.

In April 2026 it acquired Rawlinson & Hunter's Guernsey trust business. In May 2026 it agreed to acquire CIBC's 91.7% stake in CIBC Caribbean, which would expand it into Barbados, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean markets. Closing is expected in H1 2027.

Butterfield benchmarks itself against a peer group of US regional banks including First Hawaiian, Bank of Hawaii, East West Bancorp, Cullen/Frost and Commerce Bancshares. Updated Oct 28, 2026
