President Obama’s proposed tax cuts for plant and equipment address a U.S. economy from at least 100 years ago, would harm up and coming businesses searching for investment thanks to established ones retaining earnings to pursue non-economic investment, plus much like past incentives to purchase housing and cars, would at best reschedule equipment buys. That the Republicans are calling for hiring tax breaks (they used to believe that businesses served shareholders interested in them getting by with as few workers as possible) makes the debate even more discouraging.
