House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner says he may insist that a new highway bill be linked to the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline meant to carry oil from Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast. President Obama has reject plans for the project.
The Republicans have made the argument that the pipeline will create tens of thousands of jobs. Opponents believe the structure will be an environmental risk. Adding to the anxiety over the fate of Keystone XL is a threat by the Canadian government that it will build another pipeline to its West Coast and allow the oil to be shipped to China.
“If (Keystone) is not enacted before we take up the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, it will be part of it,” Boehner said on ABC’s “This Week” news program.
