The news shows that Republic is prepared to move against the industry tide to improve its P&L. Recent mega-mergers, set to improve operating efficiency include Northwest and Delta and United Air and Continental. There are rumors that bankrupt AMR, parent of American, could be bought by US Air, to round out its route system
