The search engine wars are rarely front page news any more. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) has had two third of the US market for so long that the positions of its competitors hardly matter. And Yahoo!’s (NASDAQ: YHOO) product is largely merged with Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT). Both are powered by the Bing technology based on a contractual relationship between the two companies
Google gained more market share then usual in January– up.3% to 66.2%. Yahoo!, in the headlines because of management change and the possible sale of its stake in Alibaba, was the month’s loser– down .4% to 14.1%. Microsoft rose .1% to 14.5%
Asl.com and AOL (NYSE: AOL) fell far behind in the monthly Comscore report.
