American To Fire Hundreds

AMR, the parent of American Air, says it needs to fire hundreds of workers as part of its move to exit bankruptcy. If the court in charge of the Chapter 11 process agrees to the move, there is nearly nothing employees and unions can do.

American Airlines has warned unionized employees that it needs to make major changes in its labor contracts “in a matter of weeks” to attain the $1.25 billion in annual employee cost savings the carrier said it requires to successfully reorganize in bankruptcy protection
