In the first two months of 2012, the Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) has sold a net 385 new aircraft compared with just a net total of 91 for the Airbus unit of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. (OTC: EADSY). In actual deliveries, though, Airbus and Boeing have each shipped 84 new planes.

Boeing’s huge order for 230 of its new 737 MAX aircraft from Indonesia’s Lion Air accounts for most of the difference. Deliveries for those planes is not scheduled until 2017, however.

Airbus is battling resistance to the European Union’s new carbon emissions fee, which is causing some orders to be delayed. China, for example, is holding orders for 35 A320s and 10 A380s due to its opposition to the fee, which went into effect in January. An Airbus official has said that as many as 26 countries are taking retaliatory steps against the aircraft maker due to the new fee.
