Callahan sent a short letter to Interim CEO Ross Levinsohn and Chairman Fred Amoroso, saying he made the decision to “move on to new opportunities.” Ron Bell, the deputy general counsel for products in the Americas region, will take Callahan’s place in the interim.
This is the highest profile exit from the company since Levinsohn took charge of the company. Levinsohn took over in May following the departure of permanent CEO Scott Thompson, who left following inconsistencies with his resume. Many believe Levinsohn is near the top of the list to become permanent CEO, but the board of directors has also opened a formal search.
Callahan, as the company’s top lawyer, was actively involved with the controversial decision to file patent infringement litigation against Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) for 10 patents. The case is currently tangled up in court.
Shares of Yahoo are down 0.19% to $15.80 in premarket trading.
