August 4, 2014: Stocks making new 52-week lows today included the following four firms.
Mattel Inc. (NYSE: MAT) saw shares fall to a new 52-week low of $34.88 on no specific news today. The stock’s 52-week high is $47.94, a level it hit during the last holiday season. The company reported poor quarterly results last week and continue to pay the price for its lackluster quarter.
Noble Corp. (NYSE: NE) posted a new 52-week low of $26.41 on Monday. The 52-week high is $40.71 and shares slipped nearly about 0.7% today. The offshore drilling contractor completed a spin-off of Paragon Offsore plc (NYSE: PGN) today, and dropped about $3.50 below Friday’s close when trading opened today. Investors are not happy with Paragon either, sending its shares down nearly 6% on its first day of trading.
ITT Educational Services Inc. (NYSE: ESI) dropped 39.4% on Monday to a new 52-week low of $8.70 following the collapse of discussions on a sale-and-leaseback deal on 24 of the for-profit school’s properties. The stock’s 52-week high is $45.80, a decline of about 80%.
Ceasars Entertainment Corp. (NASDAQ: CZR) dropped about 8.7% today and posted a new 52-week low of $13.90 after setting new low last Friday of $15.25. The 52-week high is $26.74. A report over the weekend said the casino operator has begun talks with a group of senior bondholders regarding restructuring the company’s debt.
