Share volume was about 20% above the daily average of around 10.6 million shares traded. The company’s stock continues to slide after a weak quarterly earnings report earlier in May.
Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) dropped about 5.8% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $3.42 after closing at $3.63 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $17.31. Share volume was more than 35% below the daily average of around 13 million shares traded. Credit Suisse initiated coverage on the coal sector today, but didn’t particularly like what it saw.
Aeropostale Inc. (NYSE: ARO) posted a new 52-week low on Tuesday. Shares dropped about 4.1% to $2.10 from Friday’s closing price of $2.19. The stock’s 52-week high is $4.39. Volume was about 50% above the daily average of around 1.6 million shares. The company’s reported earnings Friday and neither they nor the outlook gave investors a reason to smile.
New Gold Inc. (NYSEMKT: NGD) dropped about 5.9% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $3.03 against a 52-week high of $6.78. The stock closed at $3.22 on Friday night. Volume was about 15% above the daily average of around 3.3 million shares. The company had no specific news today, but gold closed down and that’s not a good thing for junior miners..
