XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) has delivered a mixed price performance so far in August, trading between $0.99 and $1.08 for 19 days before rebounding by nearly 20% to $1.20 over the last 24 hours.
The coin began trading in 2026 at $1.84, and has posted five monthly losses out of a possible seven, leaving it roughly 35% off its January high. With a little over four months left this year, can XRP recover some gains before December, and if not, will it recover by 2027?
Where Does XRP Actually Stand Right Now?

XRP began trading in 2026 at $1.84 and has lost roughly 35% of its value over the last seven months, trading around $1.20 today. As seen below, the coin has posted five red months against two green ones since January, and has posted a 17% gain so far in August. However, the monthly gain has been driven by roughly 20% rally over the last 24 hours.
XRP fell 10.6% in January as the momentum from the Q4 2025 downturn continued into 2026, pulling the token from around $3 to $1.84. XRP fell another 16.2% in February amid broader risk-off conditions linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict. However, Ripple’s inclusion as a launch partner in Mastercard’s Crypto Partner Program on March 11, alongside a broader crypto market bounce in mid-March, helped XRP limit its March loss to 2.79%.
News of a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran on April 8 improved market sentiment, helping XRP post its first green month of the year with a 2.13% gain. However, XRP lost 2.64% in May before recording its worst monthly return of the year in June at 22.1%. The coin’s decline in June erased most of the gains built since March and pushed XRP from $1.33 toward the $1 level.
XRP recovered a modest 2.11% in July to $1.06, but its price has struggled against bearish momentum in August, swinging between $0.99 and $1.08 through most of the month. XRP has rallied more than 17% to $1.18 in the last 24 hours, reversing much of its August decline as renewed optimism around U.S. crypto regulations improved market sentiment across several assets.
The U.S. Treasury also doubled its long-term debt buybacks from $2 billion to $4 billion on August 19, pushing Treasury yields lower. Although the change will take effect on September 9, the market has already begun pricing it in, improving demand for crypto assets, including XRP.
Can XRP Recover in 2027?

XRP’s chances to recover to its previous highs will likely depend on two key catalysts aligning. Together, they could bring XRP closer to its $3.65 cycle high by 2027.
Regulatory Clarity
The CLARITY Act remains the most anticipated catalyst for XRP, and the bill’s progress through the Senate could influence XRP’s price performance into 2027.
President Donald Trump renewed his push for Congress to pass the legislation on August 19 while hosting top crypto executives, including Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. Trump’s remarks add pressure on lawmakers to act, but the Senate’s September 15 cloture vote remains the next major test for the legislation.
The cloture vote requires 60 votes to pass, meaning seven Democrats must support it since the Republicans hold 53 seats. However, Galaxy Research estimates that at least two Republicans could oppose the vote, raising the number of Democratic votes needed to nine.
If cloture passes, XRP could recover above $1.50, with the full Senate vote potentially pushing the coin toward $2. However, Galaxy Research gives the legislation only a 10% chance of becoming law in 2026, down sharply from 30% weeks earlier, as the Senate has less time to pass it after the recess.
XRP ETF Demand
Spot XRP exchange-traded funds have remained some of the best-performing crypto funds since their launch, posting net inflows in eight out of its nine months of trading. In August, The funds’ cumulative net inflows crossed $1.52 billion, with inflows around $11.43 million, although the pace has slowed significantly from the strong inflows of about $1.20 billion recorded during the first two months of trading.
For ETFs to become a stronger catalyst for XRP, institutional investors would need to increase their allocations and push monthly inflows back toward November and December levels. Stronger institutional ETF demand would increase XRP purchases through the funds and could reduce the amount of XRP available for trading on exchanges, which could help push the price closer to its cycle high.
Where Could XRP Reach in 2027?
XRP could climb toward $3 and potentially exceed the $3.65 cycle high by 2027 if the token reclaims several major resistance levels around $1.40, $1.50 and $2 in 2026. Also, the CLARITY Act would need to pass a few weeks after the September 15 cloture vote, which would unlock institutional liquidity and support ETF inflows.
If the CLARITY Act’s passage is delayed into late 2026 or 2027, as Galaxy Research now suggests is increasingly likely, it could slow the recovery of ETF inflows and cap XRP’s momentum around $1.50-$2 in 2027.
However, if the CLARITY Act fails altogether, XRP could lose its major catalyst of the year, which would leave the token between $0.70-$1 in 2027 and extend the timeline for reclaiming its highs.
