Strive Jumps 7% as Strategy Ends 10-Week Bitcoin Pause With $370M Buy
Strategy just broke a long silence on Bitcoin buying, and the ripple hit a rival stock harder than Bitcoin itself. Here is why a corporate treasury move is moving shares that had nothing to do with the decision.

Strive (NASDAQ:ASST) shares are climbing this morning after peer Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR | MSTR Price Prediction) ended a 10-week Bitcoin purchase pause, a sentiment shift for corporate treasury names that arrives even as Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) itself trades slightly lower on the day. The divergence sets the tone for Monday’s session.
Strive is up 7% to $23.20 in Monday trading. Meanwhile, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is down 0.6% to $764.93. Bitcoin is down 0.5% to $78,397.57 over the past 24 hours, and that’s the anchor asset for this entire trade.
The divergence is the crucial story here. When a Bitcoin treasury company rises on a day the coin drifts lower, the move reflects sentiment about institutional appetite for the treasury model itself, and Strategy has just delivered the clearest available signal.
Strategy Returns to Buying After Ten Weeks
Strategy purchased 4,603 Bitcoin for $369.7 million between August 24 and August 30, at an average price of $80,318 per coin. The buy takes total holdings to 845,050 Bitcoin and breaks 10 consecutive reporting weeks without an addition.
The prior purchase came in the week ending June 14, when Strategy spent $100 million on 1,587 Bitcoin. The company funded this latest round by selling 4.53 million of its own shares, generating $602.8 million in net proceeds. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said the moves reduced Strategy’s net leverage to 0%, and the SEC disclosure followed his two-word post: “We’re back.”
Why the Signal Reaches Strive
Strive is a structured finance company that has adopted Bitcoin as its hurdle rate for capital deployment, acquiring and holding the asset on its balance sheet and funding purchases through equity issuance. Its wholly owned subsidiary Strive Asset Management is an SEC-registered investment adviser managing over $2.8 billion. The company has also completed a merger with Semler Scientific.
The mechanism here matters. A Bitcoin treasury stock that climbs while the coin slips is being driven by sentiment about the model, and Strategy’s return after a 10-week pause is the most direct read on that appetite anywhere in the market today. That is why Strive shares are jumping without any company-specific news of their own.
CEO Matthew Cole framed the balance sheet posture bluntly in the company’s most recent filing, stating that “Strive stands debt-free, with zero margin requirements, and zero encumbered Bitcoin; a balance sheet purpose-built to thrive through Bitcoin volatility.” That structure is exactly what makes the stock sensitive to shifts in confidence about corporate BTC accumulation.
Counterweight to the Rally
Strive stock was up 97% over the past month through Friday’s close, so this morning’s move lands on top of an already massive run. A sentiment catalyst does not change the Bitcoin value on any balance sheet, and it can reverse quickly without any fundamentals shifting.
Strategy’s own second-quarter results carried an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on digital assets, a reminder of how violently these balance sheets reprice when Bitcoin moves the wrong way. The same optionality that lifts Strive stock on a good sentiment day cuts equally hard on a bad one, and today’s move rests entirely on someone else’s disclosure.
What to Watch
Position sizing deserves firm emphasis here. A stock rising on another company’s filing, after nearly doubling in a month, carries the volatility profile of a leveraged sentiment trade (we wrote a whole free playbook on speculating with just 5% of a portfolio, here). Investors should keep their exposure sized cautiously to assume a fast reversal is possible, particularly given Strive’s beta of 13.19 and the 84% decline over the trailing year.
The next test is Strategy’s following weekly disclosure, where either another addition or a fresh pause could retest the appetite thesis that carried Strive higher today. Watch for whether Monday’s gains hold as the session progresses and whether other Bitcoin treasury names extend the sentiment bid or fade it.
